You are in the middle of your hall and watching three TV Screens. All three tv screens are showing the same content. Now, your brain does not see it as clutter and it is easy. You can focus on one TV Screen or the other and still able to absorb the content.
Now let’s move to the next level of complexity. Two Side TV Screens are showing the same content and the middle one is showing the different content. You have this awkward feeling, but still, your brain can absorb the center TV show and recognize and remove the distraction.
Now the third step. Yep, you guessed it. All three TV Screens are showing different content. You will be screaming if someone tells you to focus on Seinfield, Coldplay Song, and Your Kids Cindrella Story cartoon. You cannot focus, neither I.
Why I am explaining this and what is the story behind it. Don’t worry. I don’t have a blood story or car chasing story. But it is more important than that. It is about our skill development.
Let’s go back 10000 years ago. When we were trying to stand and walk we took a couple of weeks by doing the below activity.
7 Step Walking Skill
- Move our ass and Stand for couple Seconds
- Get a “Great wall” of china wall and hold it
- Slowly see and wait for a couple of days holding the wall & not breaking the wall
- Perform one step at a time by holding the wall and clapping
- Try to stand without wall and clapping with everyone
- Walk slowly without a wall for just a couple of steps
- Walk Brisk after this without trying to fall and fall million times
The above 7 steps were required a couple of months just to walk. When we were a one-year-old kid walking was a skill. You could not have taken it for granted and walk now if you had not practiced then.
We have grown up and now we are trying to learn “walking” kind of skill or skills. Most of the time we try to pick up X number of skills starting from school and trying to master it. It is like watching three TV Screens in front of you and trying to watch all the content once and remember it. The Activity becomes a burden and your brain explodes when you try to do that.
Our Schools, Colleges and Study Patterns have been taught to watch three TV Screens at the same time and try to remember it. It is not possible to attain a level of focus by doing 100 things at the same time.
How about if we have been taught to learn one skill? Just that one Skill which has enormous depth in it and you can immerse in it. Once you learn that skill and move to the next skill. In that way, you would have been master in many skills rather than not becoming an expert in anything.
If we watch one TV Screen we are happy, entertained, we can understand, we can laugh, we can experience. If we try to attain one skill we can go deep, become expert, laugh and sing with the skill, Master in it and teach it to someone.
Let’s master in one skill, one at a time. There is a “God Focus” in that Skill and you and your skill will become one. There is more gravity in that skill as well.
